Reports are coming in from Carlisle Police that crime is on the rise in certain parts of the area. It seems that the bulk of opportunist burglaries are being carried out by offenders simply because people are keeping their doors and windows open.
The local police have taken it upon themselves to promote to the locals by distributing over 500 leaflets advising them to make sure their windows and doors are kept locked shut.
The local police have also up’d patrols in the effected areas, when figures have shown that there were 23 house burglaries in North Cumbria in May up by seven for the same month last year.
By drilling down into the figures it was evident that 14 of the 23 burglaries were carried out because people did not secure their homes.
‘The trend in North Cumbria for burglaries is in the whole coming down, but this spate of late has shown for great concern’ says Inspector Tony Quin, ‘Even sheds and garages have been burgled in different areas’.
The police are recommending to keep your window and doors locked with good quality locks, fitting a shed alarm has really paid dividends in the past.
The local Police in North Cumbria are suggesting that if you need more advice call 101.
